Our congratulations to Ross Bragg, chair of the ASA Technical Committee on having been named as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to swimming in the Queens Birthday Honours list. Ross was made a SNZ Life Member in 2012 and was also awarded an ASA Service Award for his service to our region in 2012. Always a wonderful friend to Auckland Swimming, we could not be more delighted for Ross and his family.

Swim Lake Hood 2012
This event is in its third year with a great choice of events for both Open Water, Tri and recreational swimmers. For those looking at Nationals this event provides great lake swimming over 10km or 5km distances and being a month out before Nationals is ideally placed for any swimmer attending this event.
A link to the events home page can be found via and online registrations are now open. For those looking for some race training their is a session led by Carl Gordon on the afternoon before race day. This is limited to 20 places only.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
To all Auckland Clubs & Members
You will no doubt be aware that the draft findings and recommendations of the Independent Review of Swimming New Zealand Review was presented at a meeting on Friday 18 May. The findings will have a significant impact on the future of the sport. Comments on the draft findings need to be submitted to the Working Group of this Review by 28 May 2012 to allow them to finalise their findings and report which is due on 20 June 2012.
Due to the impact of the draft findings and recommendations of the Review, the Auckland Swimming Board feels that it is important that we share these findings with our clubs and members, but more importantly, share the position of the Auckland Board on these findings.
As a result, the Board invite you all to a meeting to discuss the draft findings and recommendations, on Thursday 24th May 7.00pm at Sports House, Harbour Sport, Albany. This invitation is open not just to Club Officers , but also to any member who has an interest.
Please indicate by email (brian@www.akswim.co.nz) for the purposes of planning the likely number of attendees from your club prior to the meeting.

The North and South Regional Age Group Development Camps are being held in Rotorua 4th - 6th May, and Queenstown 18th - 20th May. SNZ are calling for applications for Team Managers for both camps.
Applications for the North Island RAGD Team Manager position will be closing Friday 27th April 2012 at 12 noon. Open Water Swim Coaching Course, Sunday 22nd April, 9.00am - 1.00pm, at Marine Rescue Centre in Mechanics Bay, Auckland. Run by Tri NZ in conjunction with Surf Lifesaving NZ and Swimming NZ, this course aims to deliver the fundamentals of coaching Open Water Swimming. It is aimed at Bronze and ACA Junior Skills level coaches, though there are no pre-requisites to attendance.
